Ciao from Puglia

Walkway leading to our apartment

Ciao from Trani, Puglia - where we have switched gears from northern Europe to southern Italy - thanks to Ryan Air - a mere 90 minute flight.

Cathedral near the waterfront

Trani is a small city (population just under 58,000) referred to as a historic seaport on the Adriatic Sea - about 40 kms north of Bari. It's quite a lovely active little spot with many osterias, trattorias, cafes, panificios and gelaterias.  The trademark Romanesque architecture is a white colored limestone and for the most part, the streets are very clean (and narrow for pedestrians and cars!)

It's technically Italian siesta time right now (2:00 pm) but this is probably one of the noisiest time of the day in this quiet neighborhood - sitting listening to the loud Italian exclamations of conversations reverberating off the walls inside and out, with extra punctuation by a couple of dogs!

Earlier today when Pete and I were out for morning feed - I mean breakfast 😄 - the cafe filled with people and again the room was buzzing. The cafe (actually it was Maison Bistrot) is quite old style with lots of schmoltzy decorations and we loved it for that reason and so did all the locales who crowded in after us.

It's all of this - the food, the sights and the sounds of the expressive people here that I love so much 😘.

The weather has been warm around 20 Celsius but the last few days have had wind warnings for the entire region. All my cold water swimming at home must have paid off (and perhaps rubbed off on Mr. No Swim) as whereas we find this weather quite warm most people here are still dressed for winter with down jackets and toques 😄.

However on second thought perhaps all the carbohydrates we are consuming is adding to our "internal thermostats"! Needless to say no carnivore diet for a certain person right now 😄.

Viewing the main piazza in Foggia, a nearby city we travelled to by train for lunch and a day outing.

Croissants - one with lemon and the other with pistachio filling - fresh 😉
