Germany - Mittwoch
Lost in translation 🇩🇪
We are so fortunate to have our friends Roman and Evie as our personal tour guides. Ever since we started travelling to Salzburg in 2008 they are always eager to share their favorite spots with us - both in Germany where they live, just across the border and in Austria.
Pete and Roman met in Salzburg when they were both 15 and 16 years, and apparently it was an instant friendship that has weathered many years and miles in between. At the time, Pete and his family had just arrived as immigrants from Australia and Roman from Czechoslovakia.
There is something about people who have witnessed us from different eras of our lives (including hairstyles and colors! - is this tactful enough?) that makes the connection that much more precious. As you can see on the photos there is much humour and kinship shared (even if we have all heard their old stories many times!) 😂
Despite Pete's German being really quite good, things still get lost in the translation 😃. We are often never quite sure what our days adventures hold with our friends. For example today, we were expecting dinner together not lunch...so we had just finished our late breakfast before they picked us up...to go for lunch. Fortunately, as you can see from the pictures, we are always good sports (able to make room for more....always more it seems when one is travelling)! Good thing for being on the go and so far loose fitting clothes!
