Looking up

Ostuni - a city with many hills and mazes within it. It is the 'white city' (another one!) perched on top of a hill with a panoramic view of the countryside and the ocean, which is about 8 kms. away.

We had done a lot of walking since arriving in Italy 9 days ago but it's certainly been heightened (sorry for the pun) since we arrived here in Ostuni. There seems to be a message here for us as everything is up - from the hills and streets to even within our apartment - a steep flight of stairs. "Look up"  - it's a good way to live one's life - figuratively and literally ❤️. (And make sure you have good walking shoes!)

The very solid staircase up to our apartment

For now we have aching legs and feet that are adjusting. Happily, we have discovered some shops up near the top for the locales, so we won't have to keep trudging up, down and around to get food and drinks with all the tourists.

Speaking of tourists and people, we were shocked on Easter Monday by the throngs of people everywhere we went. A day of festivities indeed, despite the news of the Pope's death earlier in the morning.

Another little sweetie

Special gluten free crust - dough sits for 48 hours - very crispy and delicious topped with meatballs that melted in our mouths 😋

I can't resist all these children 😍

We are here for a week - it's a good central location to make day trips to other nearby towns. Our trek yesterday on Easter Monday took us to Polignano a Mare - one of the most picturesque towns along the coastline (about a 30 minute train ride). It was absolutely wall to wall packed with people but we managed to find a few quiet side streets away from the crowds.

It's a beautiful spot for sure and we loved seeing it in person. So thankful for the opportunity to see Italy again.
