New Beginnings in Powell River....

I never thought I would end up as a farmer when I met this engaging, exhuberant, interesting Ausi-Aussy a few years back (actually 15 to be exact). But here I am, fast forward to 2020, living with him on a rambling, green, wild and beautiful 2.4 acres of land.

And my goodness, what varied and diverse adventures have led to us positioning our behinds (and other parts) in the small ocean side town of Powell River, nestled along the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Just sixteen months ago, we moved kit and caboodle from our rented apartment in the suburbs of Port Coquitlam to the wild and untouched land of south Powell River...about a seven minute drive from the town of Powell River (population 13,003 with our arrival) and a mere 6 minute walk to the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Leading up to our move last year, of course, for all of you who know us well, you were witness to the trials and tribulation, and sometimes downright tears of frustration, as we (I say that loosely) set out to build not one but two houses for us and Pete's mom. Not going to dwell on this part too much now, since it's all behind us now (well mostly except for some fond reminiscing of building highlights)! No one told us that to build a house in a remote area, while working every other week in another city, would be so hard. But,hey, like I said, that's all behind us. Lo and behold, we ended up with two beautiful homes, a few extra gray hairs and oops maybe a few more wrinkles! But who is counting (except for me)?

But now a whole year and a half later, summer is here (I think) and our next adventure has us firmly in its grasp. The great outdoors beckons. We have this rolling green canvas in front of us to create vegetable and flower gardens, install a greenhouse and a water collection system. Sounds like another adventure to me.

It all started out a few months back (about the time the Pandemic did) when my brilliant husband starting stalking local businesses (kidding) to help them with their excess wooden pallets. Always willing to give a hand, he has transported many wooden pallets home where he has reconfigured them in to wooden raised beds and the foundation for a greenhouse for our next project - growing vegetables!

Here's a few shots of our burgeoning crops - looking pretty green and luscious right now... stay posted for new recipes as we eat our way through this adventure.

And, by the way, the fawn in the picture above was born on our property a few weeks ago. A special treat to come across it nestled in the green grass by our pond.
