Planes, trains and ferry boats
We are on the road again - except this time it is actually on the lago - via the "Rapido" boat.
One thing we have noticed is that the Italians don't do anything in a rush. So when we opted for taking the fast, rapido direct ferry, we were - ahem - curious how it would work out. The trip was approximately 3 hours as opposed to the "regular" service which would have been 5+ hours.
We set out on Sunday morning, bidding goodbye to Desanzano - next stop Riva Del Garda. We learned very quickly that the translation of direct has a different meaning in Italy. In total, we stopped at 10 different towns, before docking in Riva, the 11th and final stop at the top of Lake Garda. Each time as we approached a stop, the captain would announce in a bored, monotone voice, the name of the town: "Sir-mon-ie, Sir-mon-ie, SIR-MON-IE." No more, no less - just to ensure everyone was clear on where we were.
It was a very basic type of boat, with rows of plastic seats lined up, no beverages or food available (not that we needed it). But certainly a far cry from our ferry services where you must have at least two restaurants on a boat in order to survive an hour and half trip to Vancouver Island! They did splurge and provide a toiletta which you had to access by going outside on to the deck. Not literally, of course!!

As you can see, it was a beautiful day and a very picturesque trip.
This is Salo below - "Say-lo, Say-lo, SAY-LO!"
Gardone Rivieria coming up - pictures may not be in order - we are in Italy after all.
