Thoughts from Milan

Well, here we are - our last night in Italy - tomorrow we fly out early for Frankfurt. We will spend an overnite there and be back on Saturday afternoon in Vancouver. I am excited - because the weather forecast is indicating that the sun and heat is coming back with us to Vancouver. Yes, it looks like finally some summer for us all at home!!! Hooray!

Speaking of summer, we have spent the last 2-1/2 half days in Milan, shopping and sightseeing around the downtown area by the infamous Duomo - under brilliant blue skies and sun - WARM (33-35 Celsius)! Quite a reintroduction into the city, after spending nearly two weeks in the rural, country areas, as well as the smaller towns. Not as many beautiful ocean or lake scenarios to soak up, nor any sweet smells of jasmine, orange blossom and/or gardenia to sniff. Instead, lots and lots of people watching, amazing architecture and fabulous clothes and shops to see. I had heard that this was the fashion capital - but wow, experiencing it firsthand is amazing. I must admit feeling a wee bit like a country bumpkin - but nothing a well-worn down credit card could not remedy, if one so chose!

As we pack tonight, Pete has his Italian music playing. The tears have been dried, our straw sun hats are packed, the last limoncello has been sipped and our gelato from this afternoon has been digested. Of course, we still do have one more cappuccino and Italian pastry for breakfast to come! Allora...

All in all, a fabulous trip - everyday we have reminded ourselves how very fortunate we are. And, all along the way, we have met some great people - hosts at our B&B's - as well as fellow travelers. The world is a small place - I even bumped into someone I knew, while in Levanto - who I had met in Vancouver 20 years ago. We were both checking in at the same time into this tiny 5 room B&B, and she overheard me saying I was from Vancouver. We both looked at one another and simultaneously said "I know you from somewhere...". It took a few days before I actually remembered how we knew one another. Small world, or what!!!

Anyways, I had best get back to my packing. Arrividerci for now - hope you enjoyed our trip!!
