The hills are alive...

So, here we are in beautiful Salzburg - this is Day 4 of our stay here. We've spent the last couple of days alternating between lounging, walking, shopping and, of course, eating! Our "guesthouse (b&b)" is about a 30 minute walk from the heart of Salzburg and the main tourist areas. We are averaging anywhere from 8-10 miles a day on our walks. We must, otherwise, we will come back resembling the knodels/dumplings we have been eating!

Salzburg is teeming with many people, tourists, restaurants and expensive stores. Mozart's birthplace and the 'Sound of Music' are but two things that have brought great fame to this area. Perhaps not quite as famed to many, but not to be overlooked is the Holzermayr chocolate shop that was a family business since the mid 1800's. Our call to fame...

The location of our guesthouse is an amazing contrast - we look out from our balcony and gaze upon rolling, green pastures, trees, mountains and of course, nature. I hear sheep bleating - oh, Pete is out on our balcony, trying to persuade them to pose for a blog shot. The birds are anxious not to be missed and are singing their hearts out as well. Walking into Salzburg the other day, we were impressed to see 'live' chickens and ducks strolling around somewhat freely on their owner's plot of land. Coming from our busy city home, it is strangely reassuring that this type of lifestyle still exists.

The sun has decided to reappear and temperatures are estimated to be around 28 Celsius this afternoon. We will meet with our friends, Roman, Evi and Andy, for a picnic later today at a local beer garden near the heart of Salzburg. Should be fun.

Servos for now!
